The Big Short: Ryan Gosling equates Jenga to housing bubble in clip

There’s a lot more to Jenga than you think, as Ryan Gosling’s Jared Vennett proves in the latest clip for The Big Short, director Adam McKay’s film inspired by Michael Lewis’ book detailing those who profited off the late 2000s financial crisis.

In the scene above, Vennett—based on former mortgage trader Greg Lippmannpitches a room including Mark Baum (Steve Carell) on what was then the imminent bursting of the housing bubble. The hedge managers are skeptical at the offer that seems too good to be true: 10-to-1, maybe 20-to-1 returns on a near guarantee. Jared puts it as simply as possible: “I’m standing in front of a burning house, and I’m offering you fire insurance on it!”
