Saturday Night Live: Ryan Gosling hosts, EW live blogs

Posted on

Saturday Night Live

Let’s not beat around the bush: Ryan Gosling is a dreamy, dreamy man — a quality that will probably be front and center in at least one sketch in his episode of Saturday Night Live if the promos, which feature Aidy Bryant trying to steal a kiss from him, are any indication.

This will be Gosling’s first time hosting the show, and one of few times when he’s branched out of drama to tackle comedy: His impressive filmography is filled with dramas, both dark (Blue Valentine) and sappy (The Notebook)but is low on comedic offerings save for 2011’s Crazy, Stupid, Love and, to a lesser degree, forthcoming comedy-drama The Big ShortThat’s not to say he can’t be funny — his previous attempts prove he can be, even in more subtle roles like his turn as a doll-loving loner in Lars and the Real Girl — and once again, those promos show he’s ready and willing to be a good sport, perhaps the most important thing when it comes to hosting SNL.

Although Gosling is also a musician (he released an album in 2009 with Zach Shields under the name Dead Man’s Bones), he’s handing the stage over to old-school soul singer Leon Bridges for the night’s music. Bridges’ debut album, Coming Home, came out this past June, and peaked at the No. 6 spot on the Billboard 200. He’ll definitely play the album’s first single and title track — which EW named one of the year’s best songs — though it’s anyone’s guess as to what he’ll also play since he hasn’t released another single yet.

Tune in at 11:29 p.m. ET on NBC and watch along with us as we liveblog the episode, and stay tuned for our full recap.
