Drones are more topical then ever, and in 2016 they’ll have their own feature film starring Helen Mirren, Aaron Paul, and Alan Rickman. The drama Eye in the Sky will focus on the moral implications of modern warfare, as shown in the film’s North American trailer.
The movie is about a military drone operation led by Colonel Katherine Powell (Mirren), who is tasked with capturing terrorists in Kenya. However, when they learn that the terrorists are planning a deadly assault, Powell and her operation are ordered to kill the terrorists. Just before drone pilot Steve Watts (Paul) can destroy the house containing the terrorists, a hula-hooping young girl appears beside the house. The central question of the film involves whether this covert military drone operation should sacrifice this one innocent life to stop these terrorists.
Eye in the Sky will be released to select theaters on May 11.
