DREAMERS 'Shooting Shadows' video premiere

The break-up track gets an underwater treatment.

Posted on

Brooklyn based grunge-pop rockers DREAMERS—comprised of vocalist/guitarist Nick Wold, single-name bassist Nelson, and drummer Jacob Wick—self-released a notable EP Dreamers last year , and that collection, which housed single “Wolves (You Got Me),” led to a tour with Stone Temple Pilots this past spring. Then came a label deal with Fairfax Recordings and now, a walk-up to their first studio LP.

So far they’ve shared “Shooting Shadows” off the set, on which sees Wold lashing out against the constraints of a relationship. “We’re kind of tragically locked in conflict with people because we love them,” he says of the tune’s inspiration. “So it’s about conflicts in love—the chains that you put on each other.” EW is excited to premiere the wonderfully lo-fi video for the track today.

In the clip, Wold’s gruff vocal is highlighted by a woman as the video’s centerpiece, thrashing in a pool that she’s ostensibly drowning in. Seeing her sing his heavy vocals is immediate and affecting. “That’s something I’ve always wanted to do actually,” Wold says of the juxtaposition, “to have a beautiful woman singing the words of a male voice.”

Wold got his start as a competitive jazz player in high school before studying saxophone at New York University. But it was there he realized he was more into head banging. “I wanted to get back into rock n’ roll,” he says. “I grew up on the Beatles—they’re probably my biggest influence—and then later in adolescence discovered the Strokes and was big into that; just big rock n’ roll bands. I see a thread going through the decades [and] I want to carry that torch, continue that tradition in some way.” You won’t hear any complaint from us. /p>
