Taraji P. Henson was among the stars honored at VH1 Big in 2015 With Entertainment Weekly, and the Empire actress made sure to give special thanks to Debbie Allen for what she did for Henson in the past.

“I became pregnant in college and there was a fear of not being able to continue my education,” Henson said after Allen spoke about the actress’s big year. I have Debbie to thank for that, and her sister, Phylicia Rashad. Because I really had no money to finish my education. They established this award in honor of their father, Andrew Allen.”

As Henson explained, the award provided scholarships to actors who were triple threats: actors, singers, and dancers.
