Before season 9 of Doctor Who can hang up its velvet coat and say, “NO MORE,” the Doctor has one last battle to fight — and this one is personal.
After a 2 billion-year-long journey through his own confession dial, Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is back on his home planet of Gallifrey, and he’s not going to make it easy on the Time Lords, as if he ever has. He may even be the hybrid destined to bring about their destruction (unless he’s referring to Maisie Williams’ Ashildr, who goes more often by the name of “Me”).
“The hybrid will stand in the ruins of Gallifrey and destroy a billion hearts to heal his own,” one Time Lord foresees.
Check out the promo for season 9 finale, “Hell Bent,” featuring old enemies like the Daleks and Weeping Angels and old friends like the interior of the First Doctor’s TARDIS. And is that Jenna Coleman’s thought-to-be-dead Clara taking the Doctor’s hand?
Season 9 of Doctor Who concludes Saturday at 9 p.m. ET on BBC America, then returns for a Christmas special on Dec. 25.
