The Thanksgiving episode of The Grinder is not only stuffed with guest-stars—Jason Alexander! Timothy Olyphant! Arielle Kebbel!—it’s generously garnished with flashbacks that reveal what exactly prompted Dean (Rob Lowe) to leave his hit legal drama The Grinder. As you will see, Dean had a falling out with the show’s gruff creator, Cliff Bemis (Alexander). “They have a fight over creative differences,” real-life Grinder co-creator Andrew Mogel tells EW. “Cliff is playing to ratings, whereas Dean wants to tell important stories.”
Also of importance: Timothy Olyphant plays… Timothy Olyphant, Dean’s frenemy. “Timothy gives Dean some friendly advice that turns out to be not so friendly—he has some ulterior motives,” hints Grinder co-creator Jarrad Paul. What else can we tell you? The present-day action in this episode takes places on Thanksgiving, while the flashbacks involve the filming of a T-Day episode of The Grinder. Dean will probably be shirtless. And Kebbel (Vampire Diaries) makes a cameo as Avery, Dean’s onscreen colleague and bedmate on the show-within-the-show. “They have a very heated sexual/professional dynamic,” Mogel teases.
Paul teased tonight’s episode, airing at 8:30 p.m. on Fox, with three words: “Grinder: New Orleans.”
