No, The Boss is not about Bruce Springsteen. But perhaps just as good is its actual plot: The new movie stars Melissa McCarthy as Michelle Darnell, a titan of industry sent to jail for insider trading. After she’s done her time and is ready to rebrand, Darnell finds out not all the people in her life are so ready to forgive her past misdeeds
McCarthy wrote the script with her husband, Ben Falcone, along with longtime friend, Steve Mallory. It was a character that McCarthy came up with when she was a member of the comedy troupe the Groundlings over a decade ago. “She was always one of my favorites to do,” McCarthy told EW earlier this year. “I love her. I’m fascinated with those people who push so hard—I always love flawed characters. I think they are the most fun to be had.”
Costarring alongside McCarthy is Kristen Bell, Peter Dinklage, and Kathy Bates. The Boss hits theaters in April, and after releasing an short teaser on Instagram, Universal debuted the film’s first trailer on Thursday’s edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Check it out below.
