It is decided: David Beckham is officially the sexiest man alive.

People magazine’s pick was announced during Tuesday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! After the studio audience played a version of 20 questions to guess his identity — “Have you every played a superhero?” “Were you ever in a boy band?” “Has Taylor Swift ever made a song about you?” — Kimmel introduced Beckham via video call and unveiled People’s cover (check it out below), featuring the hunky former soccer star.

“It’s the best moment of my career,” Beckham joked. “I would obviously like to thank my parents for bringing me into this world. And I’d like to thank my hairdresser, my stylist, and Photoshop.”

Beckham, who retired from professional soccer in 2013, is the first non-performer to earn the coveted title since John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1988. The 40-year-old athlete, fashion icon, and father of four joins an elite club of men plucked primarily from Hollywood, including last year’s honoree Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and previous title holders Adam Levine, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Hugh Jackman, and many more.

The English Football Hall of Famer won league titles in four different countries, and played in three World Cups. He’s appeared in ads for Adidas, Armani, H&M, and Pepsi. And he’s married to fashion designer (and former Spice Girl) Victoria Beckham and father to their daughter and three sons.

“We kind of laughed about it with the boys, and the boys kind of laughed at me and said, ‘Really?! Sexiest man alive? Really?’” Victoria Beckham told People. “Around the house, David is just David, not the Sexiest Man Alive! … He’s a really good person. He’s a really great dad, he’s very kind, charitable and he inspires me every day.”
