A few weeks ago Alessia Cara joined Taylor Swift onstage during the Tampa stop of the 1989 tour for a performance of her hit single, “Here.” Swift later posted a snippet of on her Instagram with the caption, “Honestly couldn’t be more impressed by this girl.” And afterwards, the two sat down for an interview for Yahoo! where Swift continued to express her excitement about Cara’s music — and where Cara talked about the story behind and the response so far to “Here.”
“I hear now that it gets played at parties,” Cara said of the track, sung from the perspective of someone at a less-than-stellar party. “If you really think about it, it’s such a miserable song for a first single. But it worked!”
“Here” eventually made its way to the No. 11 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100, and now, Cara’s set to embark on a North American tour kicking off this January. in support of her new album, Know-It-All. “I was always so scared to sing in front of people,” she tells Swift, referring to how she would sing around the house at a young age. “That was kind of my weird thing.”
Her “weird thing” is seemingly no more though: The duo’s recent duet took place in front of a crowd of 55,000 people, and it even got the Swift stamp of approval (“You killed it,” she tells Cara).
