Mainland premiere whistling new tune 'A Bit Out Of Time'

Posted on

New York City alt-rockers Mainland introduced themselves with the sunny-but-sad “Outcast” earlier this year. Now, EW is excited to premiere their second tune, “A Bit Out of Time,” off their forthcoming EP, also called Outcast. It’s throwback new wave with hints of California garage rock peeking through — which is to say, it’s totally irresistible.

“‘A Bit Out of Time’ is about losing someone,” frontman Jordan Topf tells EW. “Someone you love. I lost my father. I lost my mind in a past relationship. I lost my job. I lost my sense of direction in life. This song was a reaction to that feeling. Displacement, loneliness, loss of the most important people in your life and not knowing how to cope with pain. Only being left to your own devices and your guitar to shine a light when it gets dark.”

Outcast is out Dec. 4 via 300 Entertainment.
