If you’re looking to Force-ify your wardrobe before the Dec. 18 premiere of The Force Awakens, Hot Topic has got you covered.
On Monday, the retailer announced a new collection from Her Universe, the “fangirl fashion” company founded by actress Ashley Eckstein, who is the voice of Ahsoka Tano on the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.
Eckstein penned an open letter to Star Wars fans, included in the collection’s press release, in which she urges fans to “step into the spotlight” and post their own Star Wars stories to social media using the hashtag #MyStarWarsStory. Eckstein also commented on the gender stereotype that Star Wars isn’t for girls. “How can you put a gender on Star Wars?” she writes. “Star Wars is for everyone.”
The Force Awakens is diversifying the galaxy far, far away when it comes to both race and gender, and female fans who admire Daisy Ridley’s Rey, Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma, or, of course, Carrie Fisher’s (don’t-call-her-Princess) Leia can now get their fangirl on; the new line includes dresses à la Leia and Vader, bomber jackets reminiscent of Boba Fett and BB-8, and The Force Awakens tour t-shirts.
