Mad Decent Boat Party woman missing: Label makes statement

Posted on

UPDATE: Mad Decent has canceled the rest of four-day music festival Mad Decent Boat Party after a woman went overboard on the cruise ship housing the fest. Instead of calling into Cozumel, the boat will return to Miami.

EARLIER: Mad Decent hosted a cruise-line based music festival this week between Miami and Cozumel, Mexico, and according to reports, an unidentified woman was seen going overboard as the cruise ship, the Norwegian Pearl, was about 22 miles off the coast of Cuba.

The label, which hosts music festivals like Mad Decent Block Party with label head Diplo, issued a statement on the woman, who is now missing.

“Thursday, Nov. 12 during the chartered cruise on Norwegian Pearl, a female guest was observed intentionally going overboard while the ship was sailing the Yucatan Channel,” Mad Decent said in a statement. “The ship’s crew immediately initiated rescue measures, including deploying three rescue boats and notifying the Coast Guard and other relevant authorities. The search for the guest is ongoing. Both the ship and charter company teams are providing support to the family and all impacted guests during this difficult time.”

NBC News reports that the Coast Guard issued rescue planes and boats to help the search for the woman.

Mad Decent Boat Party is a four-day music event with scheduled sets from A-Trak, Dillon Francis, Skrillex, and Major Lazer, among other artists, until Nov. 15.
