Fans have known Aziz Ansari for years, both from his riotous standup comedy specials and his star-making turn as Tom Haverford on Parks and Recreation. But this year, Ansari proved he was just getting started. Between his book Modern Romance, which explored how relationships have changed in the age of texting and social media, and his new Netflix show Master of None, which gave hilarious and brilliant insight into the experience of first-generation Americans, Ansari put his thumb squarely on the 2015 zeitgeist.
So it’s probably no surprise, then, that Ansari is one of EW’s “Entertainers of the Year.” Along with previously announced honorees Amy Schumer, Taraji P. Henson, Elizabeth Banks, and the cast of Straight Outta Compton, Ansari will be celebrated during the VH1 Big in 2015 with Entertainment Weekly special, which airs Dec. 7 on VH1.
The event will be hosted by hip-hop superstar T.I. and will feature big-name celebrity presenters as well. Ansari will be honored by his former Parks and Recreation co-star Aubrey Plaza.
