Nathaniel Marston, best known for playing Michael McBain on One Life to Live from 2001–2007, died in Reno, Nevada, on Wednesday, his mother announced on Facebook. He was 40 years old.
“My beloved and cherished son, Nathaniel Marston, who was putting up the good fight until last night, was not able to continue due to the traumatic and devastating nature of his injuries,” she wrote. “Nathaniel passed away peacefully as I held him in my arms.”

The soap actor was placed on life-support following a car crash near Reno on Oct. 30, breaking his shoulder, ribs, and five vertebrae in the accident, Entertainment Tonight reported at the time. His mother, Elizabeth Jackson, continued in her Wednesday Facebook post that Marston would have “required a ventilator and would never have been able to utter one more word and would have been sentenced to life as a quadriplegic” had he survived his injuries.
Following his six-year turn on One Life to Live, Marston featured in guest-starring roles on Law & Order: SVU, White Collar, Castle, and Blue Bloods; he had not appeared onscreen since 2011.
