The Finest Hours‘ first trailer split its focus between the tale of a 1950s Coast Guard rescue at sea and the life of one of those Coast Guard members on land. The latest look at the film, however, puts the focus squarely on the terrifying plight of a group stranded on a sinking oil tanker in the middle of a brutal nor’easter.
The trailer highlights Chris Pine’s Bernie Webber as he goes out to sea with a small group to help Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck) and his crew as the storm rages on and their lives are constantly at risk. Coast Guard captain Webber and his crew head out on a small lifeboat, having to contend with massive waves and icy temperatures, putting their lives on the line to save the crew. Webber’s home life and the sacrifice he may be making by going out to sea took the spotlight of the first trailer, but the newest take puts more of an action rescue mission spin on the entire tale, which is set to hit theaters on Jan. 29.
