Big Boi, one half of hip-hop superstar group Outkast, was a guest on ESPN’s The Dan LeBatard Show this week and casually mentioned that the duo turned down the Superbowl Halftime Show a few years back. Apparently, Andre 3000 was not into the notion of having to shorten their songs for TV viewing.

“[Andre] didn’t want to cut the songs; he wanted to do the full songs,” Big Boi said. “He said, ‘Nah, can’t do it.'” He also suggests the offer was for the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show, which ended up going to Janet Jackson, Justin Timberlake, and one historic wardrobe malfunction.

You can hear his whole interview over at ESPN. His Superbowl comments begin around the four-minute mark.

Outkast recently reunited for a summer-filled festival tour in 2014, when they played Coachella, Governor’s Ball, Lollapalooza, and more.
