Disaster on Broadway: 70s movie disco spoof casts stage veterans

Disaster is headed for Broadway. And so is Disaster!, the Off Broadway musical spoofing the tidal waves, earthquakes, and towering infernos of ‘70s B-movies, all to the soundtrack of the era’s pop, rock, and disco hits.

More familiar than the score are the faces who have been tapped to lead the show’s first Broadway run, pulled from a pool of Tony winners and nominees instantly recognizable to Broadway fans. Faith Prince, Adam Pascal, Roger Bart, Kerry Butler, Kevin Chamberlin, Rachel York, Seth Rudetsky, Jennifer Simard, Max Crumm, and Lacretta Nicole will navigate the ship to Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre.

Disaster!, written by Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick (who also directs), will open on March 8, 2016, following the beginning of previews on Feb. 9.

The show will also feature choreography by JoAnn M. Hunter, scenic design by Tobin Ost, costume design by William Ivey Long, and lighting design by Jeff Croiter.

A former entry of EW’s own Must List, Disaster! debuted downtown in January 2012 and moved Off Broadway to St. Luke’s Theatre for a wild 2013-2014 run.
