Swing is coming to the Great White Way: The Bandstand will arrive on Broadway for the 2016-2017 season, following its world premiere at the Paper Mill Playhouse earlier this fall. Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes (Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella) and Corey Cott (Newsies) are set to star.

The musical focuses on the life of Donny Novitski, a musician who plans to lead a group of veterans to victory in a swing band contest. In the post-war world of 1945, Donny must navigate the stress of the competition along with love, when he meets Julia, a singer that could help his team win it all. Directed and choreographed by Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, In The Heights), The Bandstand includes music by Richard Oberacker and books and lyrics by Oberacker and Robert Taylor.

It’s been really thrilling to see The Bandstand come to life for the very first time up on the stage at Paper Mill Playhouse,” said Blankenbuehler in a statement. “We’ve learned a lot about the show, and we’re excited to continue working on the piece as we focus towards an opening in New York next year. The show’s heart is huge, and its voice is both unique and exciting. I’m very, very thankful to be part of this team!”

Additional casting, as well as dates and a theater will be announced at a later date.
