ABC Family changes its name to Freeform in January, it’s going all-out to find its next young star.
The network announced it will hold an open online casting call for a preteen girl to play the young Nicki Minaj in the upcoming sitcom about the rapper’s life. The notice asks for a girl between the ages of 11 and 13 to play the Grammy nominee.
The series, which received a series commitment in September, will be a single-camera, half-hour sitcom that relives Minaj’s upbringing in Queens, New York in the 1990s after her family’s immigration from Trinidad. Minaj will produce and appear in the show, as well as pen raps for her younger self.
