John Oliver revealed Friday that he has little interest in having Donald Trump on his talk show, Last Week Tonight. As it turns out, Trump didn’t want to come on anyway. The controversial presidential hopeful fired back at the media personality on Saturday following comments Oliver made on CBS This Morning.
“John Oliver had his people call to ask me to be on his very boring and low rated show. I said ‘NO THANKS,’” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Waste of time & energy!”
According to the Last Week Tonight Twitter account, however, Trump was never asked to be a guest on the HBO show.
“At no point did we invite Donald Trump to appear on it,” the account posted on Sunday. Oliver retweeted the debunk from his own handle.
On Friday’s CBS This Morning, Oliver made his disinterest in Trump known, calling him an “open book” that “doesn’t have many interesting words in it.” He went on to add that he doesn’t “really care about him in any capacity” and he already “said everything he has to say.”
Oliver has yet to interview a presidential candidate on Last Week Tonight. As he told the morning show, he’s a comedian, “not a journalist.”
