Vine star BigNik appeared at New York’s Stream Con this weekend and after speaking about his family, he revealed some “life lessons” he’s learned from his 6-year-old sister Devina, who identifies as transgender.
“We really accept her,” he told PEOPLE. “We found out one day she submitted a project in class and the teacher was very concerned. It was about an elephant being trapped, not able to be itself. She sent it back home and we had a meeting with — at the time, Dev — and we had to pry it out of her what was wrong.”
BigNik, whose given name is Nik Keswani and appears with his family in PEOPLE’s web series Meet The Keswanis, said that Devina said she hated her life and she really wanted to be a girl. “Seeing a six-year-old asking for another life is a very big sign and a lot of people think being transgender is a trend or a way to make a quick buck, but honestly it’s a lot more than that.”
