Rumors about the state of The X-Files‘ main duo have been gaining speed since star David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) suggested in recent interviews that Mulder and longtime partner Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) were husband and wife. “They were together but never married, so that was news to me,” said Carter, reminding fans where the series’ second movie, 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe, left its two main characters. But is it a definite denial?

To quote EW’s own Jeff Jensen, who moderated the panel, “I think there’s a story here.”
