Any day with free frozen yogurt is a good day. But when that frozen yogurt is served up by none other than Barbra Streisand — the platinum-selling and award-winning singer, actress, and director with a basement mall inside her posh Malibu home — that is a truly special occasion.
Just ask Ryan Murphy, the American Horror Story and Scream Queens creator who recently regaled an EW Fest audience with his story of visiting Babs’ one-of-a-kind crib with pal Lady Gaga.
“We had dinner with Barbra and Jim [Brolin], and Kelly [Preston] and John [Travolta],” Murphy said. “And then after dinner she said, ‘Do you want to see the mall?’ And Gaga and I were out of that chair! We went down to the mall and we spent an hour in that mall.”
Murphy then recalled how Streisand “pulled out her collection of gowns from Funny Girl and Hello Dolly, and then she said, ‘Do you want frozen yogurt?’ So we went to the frozen yogurt room.”
EW’s own Tim Stack, the panel moderator, was taken aback: “There’s a frozen yogurt place?”
“There’s a frozen yogurt room in the mall,” Murphy confirmed. Asked who operates the Pinkberry-esque facility, Murphy replied, “She does! She asked what toppings we wanted …. It was truly amazing. I could write a whole book about that night.”
