How have things changed for Empire stars Jussie Smollett and Taraji P. Henson since the show’s explosive premiere in January? Speaking at EW Fest on Saturday, Smollett and Henson recalled what happened when they recently visited Target.
“This woman chased us in a wheelchair because of him!” Henson said, as the audience laughed. As Henson previously explained, Smollett didn’t like to disguise himself in public (where as she often wore a hood and dressed like, in her words, The Unabomber).
“I was in shock,” Smollett recalled. “We were running. This woman was a gangster. […] She was straight-up! I’m saying this in the most loving way, She was dope. She caught up to us, to my car pulling in. I was like ‘Baby, you’re going to hurt yourself.'”
As Smollett told the crowd, the woman wanted a picture and he was happy take one. Marveled the 32-year-old: “She was a gangster. She was like, you’re not going to get away, and we literally did not.”
