We gave it a D-

Television doesn’t need any more serial-killer dramas, though I would surely watch one if it was wicked smart. Like Hannibal. Hannibal was a profoundly deep, form-busting pulp serial, one of the best shows of the year. Wicked City is not. It’s a profoundly unnecessary, formally cloddish collection of grating cop-show clichés, antiseptically scuzzy nihilism, and just stupid, stupid stupidity, wrapped in cheap, loud nostalgia for the L.A. of the hair-metal ’80s. Jeremy Sisto plays the morally murky detective. Ed Westwick plays the misogynistic psycho. Erika Christensen plays his wrongheaded thrall. Hopefully they’ll find better work soon. With a rebel yell, I cry NO! NO NO NO NO MORE! D–
