Here's your guide to every horror movie airing the week of Halloween

Posted on

Compass International Pictures/Getty Images; Everett Collection

Who says Halloween is only for costumes and candy? If you’re a pop culture obsessive, the week of Halloween is the perfect time for catching all the classic and not-so-classic-but-utterly-enjoyable horror movies airing across dozens of channels on TV.

And we’re not just talking pure horror movies: We’ve also included family-friendly picks (hello, Hocus Pocus), creature features (Spiders or Ticks?), found footage films (several installments of Paranormal Activity will be available), and even more options to get your spooky binge-ing going.

That said, if you’d rather not sit through films, networks will also be airing marathons of TV shows: From Oct. 25 to Oct. 31, FXX will play a week of The Simpsons‘ Treehouse of Horror specials, while FX will show the first six episodes of Fox’s Scream Queens the night of Halloween. At the same time, on the 31st, two chilling series will hit the small-screen: Ash vs. Evil Dead premieres on Starz and The Returned, well, returns on Sundance. And for fans of the zombie apocalypse, AMC will be airing episodes of The Walking Dead throughout the week, wedged among the horror movie classics that will be shown on the channel.

Below, we’ve compiled a day-by-day breakdown of what’s playing from Oct. 24 to Nov. 1, listed in order of air time, with a selection of the films we’d recommend checking out. (All times listed are ET.)

Saturday, October 24

EARLY MORNING

FX: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2 AM)

IFC: The Hills Have Eyes (3:14 AM)

HBO 2: Feardotcom (3:15 AM)

Showtime Beyond: eXistenZ (4:45 AM)

What to Watch: Kick off your horror movie binge with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter on FX. If you’re too tired, just watch for the visual effects and rest assured that you won’t miss much from the lackluster plot. But if the early hour has you in a contemplative, existential mindset, watch David Cronenberg’s 1999 film eXistenZ on Showtime Beyond, a body horror/virtual reality film set in the near future. (Does 2015 now count as the near future?)

MORNING

AMC: Day of the Dead (7 AM)

AMC: Resident Evil (9 AM)

ABC Family: ParaNorman (9 AM)

Chiller: The Innkeepers (9 AM)

Syfy: The Wraith (9:30 AM)

FXX: Evil Dead (10 AM)

AMC: Resident Evil: Apocalypse (11 AM)

Chiller: The Tooth Fairy (11 AM)

ABC Family: Corpse Bride (11 AM)

Syfy: Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (11:30 AM)

What to Watch: The Wraith (Syfy) starring Charlie Sheen will get you up and about with its action scenes and ‘80s rock ‘n’ roll soundtrack. This morning also has the first airings of two iconic horror franchises: Evil Dead, on FXX, and Resident Evil, on AMC.

AMC: Seed of Chucky (5 PM)

Chiller: Dylan Dog: Dead of Night (5 PM)

IFC: Saw II (5:30 PM)

What to Watch: M. Night Shyamalan’s classic The Sixth Sense won’t be airing, but you can watch Signs (FXX) to see Mel Gibson run through cornfields. For a few laughs, tune in to AMC to see Kevin Bacon in Tremors, a cult classic about giant underground worms. AMC is also airing Child’s Play and Seed of Chucky, and it’s the only time you can catch the Chucky franchise. But if you’re a big fan of the Paranormal Activity series, FX has the first airing of the original. (Get started early so you can watch the rest of them later!)

EVENING

FX: Paranormal Activity 3 (6 PM)

Syfy: Orphan (6:30 PM)

ABC Family: Addams Family Values (6:30 PM)

AMC: Leprechaun (7 PM)

Chiller: Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (7 PM)

Flix: Silent Night, Deadly Night (8 PM)

FX: Paranormal Activity 4 (8 PM)

ABC Family: Monsters University (8:30 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Deep Rising (8:45 PM)

Chiller: The Last Exorcism (9 PM)

AMC: Leprechaun 2 (9 PM)

Syfy: The Hollow (9 PM)

What to Watch: The evening block features Leprechaun on AMC, which we’re pretty sure most people watch just to see a pre-fame Jennifer Aniston from 1993. Speaking of holiday creatures, if you’re starting to feel the Christmas spirit, tune in to Flix for Silent Night, Deadly Night, about a murderer dressed as Santa Claus; it’s so bad it’s goodSyfy will also be debuting a new TV movie called The Hollow, a creature feature flick.

LATE NIGHT

IFC: Saw IV (10 PM ET)

Sundance: American Psycho (10:45 PM)

AMC: Leprechaun 3 (11 PM)

Syfy: The Fog (11 PM)

IFC: Saw V (12:15 AM)

Chiller: Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (1 AM)

Syfy: Hostel (1 AM)

AMC: Leprechaun 4 in Space (1:00 AM)

What to Watch: Chiller will air The Innkeepers, a film about a couple of young ghostchasers in a haunted inn. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s a pretty enjoyable flick for late night. Another movie that will make you feel relieved that you’re safe in your own home is Eli Roth’s Hostel (Syfy), full of torture and mutilation.

NEXT: Sunday, October 25

Sunday, October 25

EARLY MORNING

IFC: Saw VI (2:45 AM)

Chiller: The Last Exorcism (3 AM)

Syfy: Boogeyman (3 AM)

AMC: Re-Animator (3 AM)

HBO 2: The Faculty (3:45 AM)

IFC: Saw: The Final Chapter 3D (4 AM)

Flix: Ticks (1992) (4:55 AM)

What to Watch: If you don’t mind some early morning gore, AMC has your only chance to watch the Frankenstein-inspired 1985 cult classic Re-Animator. Another choice is The Faculty on HBO 2, a good film for star-gazing with a cast that includes Jon Stewart, Usher, and more.

MORNING

AMC: Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare (6 AM)

ABC Family: ParaNorman (7 AM)

FXX: Evil Dead (7 AM)

AMC: House of Wax (8 AM)

Syfy: Sinister (9 AM)

ABC Family: Corpse Bride (9 AM)

FX: Paranormal Activity (9 AM)

FXX: Signs (9 AM)

AMC: Jeepers Creepers 2 (10:30 AM)

ABC Family: The Nightmare Before Christmas (11 AM)

FX: Paranormal Activity 2 (11 AM)

What to Watch: For some 2000s nostalgia, your best bet is House of Wax on AMC, where you can watch Paris Hilton and Chad Michael Murray run around to avoid becoming a wax corpse. For something more family-friendly, watch Tim Burton’s stop-motion films Corpse Bride or The Nightmare Before Christmas (ABC Family).

AFTERNOON

AMC: Friday the 13th (12:30 PM)

ABC Family: Casper (12:30 PM)

Showtime Beyond: The Amityville Horror (2005) (12:45 PM)

FX: Paranormal Activity 3 (1 PM)

Showtime Next: Chastity Bites (1:55 PM)

AMC: A Nightmare on Elm Street (2:30 PM)

Syfy: Orphan (2:30 PM)

ABC Family: The Addams Family (2:30 PM)

FX: Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hungers (3 PM)

AMC: Freddy vs. Jason (4:30 PM)

ABC Family: Addams Family Values (4:30 PM)

Showtime Next: The Roost (5:05 PM)

Showtime Beyond: The Atticus Institute (5:30 PM)

What to Watch: The afternoon block is full of iconic horror franchises, so check out Friday the 13th or A Nightmare on Elm Street, both airing on AMC. It’s also a good time to revisit Morticia and Wednesday in The Addams Family and its sequel, Addams Family Values, on ABC Family.

EVENING

Showtime Next: The Culling (6:30 PM)

Syfy: The Hollow (7 PM)

Showtime Beyond: The Amityville Horror (2005) (7 PM)

ABC Family: Monsters University (7 PM)

Showtime Next: Shadow People (8 PM)

Sundance: The Mist (8 PM)

FXX: Hotel Transylvania (8 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Scary Movie (8:30 PM)

Syfy: The Cabin in the Woods (9 PM)

Showtime Next: Ju-On (9:30 PM)

ABC Family: Hocus Pocus (9:45 PM)

What to Watch: As part of Stephen King Thriller Week on Sundance, tune in to The Mist. The adaptation is good, but what’ll be even more enjoyable is spotting four Walking Dead actors among the cast. At some point this week, be sure to watch the well-received The Cabin in the Woods (Syfy), written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard. And of course, no Halloween marathon can be complete without Hocus Pocus. ABC Family is airing it all week, so be sure to check it out when you have enough time to appreciate Bette Midler at her finest.

LATE NIGHT

FXX: Hotel Transylvania (10 PM)

Sundance: Thinner (10:45 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Tales From the Hood (11:30 PM)

Sundance: Jacob’s Ladder (12:45 AM)

Showtime Beyond: John Dies at the End (1:14 AM)

Syfy: Lost Boys: The Tribe (1:30 AM)

What to Watch: Late night sounds like a good time for a psychological horror like Jacob’s Ladder (Sundance). In Tim Robbins’ first starring role in a feature film, he plays a Vietnam vet who keeps getting demonic visions. It’s creepy and disturbing, so if you want something tamer, go with the harmless animated film Hotel Transylvania (ABC Family). If all you’ve done is watch a bunch of films through your fingers, Hotel Transylvania will give you a break to gather your wits again.

Monday, October 26

EARLY MORNING

Showtime Next: Chastity Bites (2:25 AM)

Showtime 2: House of the Dead (2:30 AM)

Showtime Beyond: Let Us Prey (2:55 AM)

HBO Comedy: Beetlejuice (2:45 PM)

Chiller: Bloodwork (3 AM)

Flix: An American Werewolf in London (3:15 AM)

Syfy: Lost Boys: The Thirst (3:30 AM)

HBO 2: Hollow Man (4 AM)

Sundance: Shadow (4:15 AM)

Showtime Beyond: The Atticus Institute (4:30 AM)

What to Watch: HBO Comedy is airing Beetlejuice, one of Tim Burton’s earliest films and a comedy classic with great makeup, great costumes, and great Harry Belafonte songs. You can also tune in to An American Werewolf in London (Flix), which features an incredible transformation scene – without CGI – that helped the film win an Oscar for Best Makeup in 1981.

MORNING

Showtime Extreme: Deep Rising (6:05 AM)

Syfy: Ghost Voyage (6:30 AM)

FX: Priest (7:30 AM)

IFC: Army of Darkness (7:45 AM)

Syfy: Ghost Town (8:30 AM)

AMC: Scream 4 (9 AM)

Showtime Beyond: Shadow People (9:15 AM)

IFC: Slaughter (9:30 AM)

FX: Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (9:30 AM)

Syfy: Battledogs (10:30 AM)

AMC: The Last House on the Left (11:30 AM)

What to Watch: You don’t need to watch Scream 1-3 to enjoy Scream 4 (AMC). The film, which came out in 2011, was the final film Wes Craven directed before his death earlier this year. Another Wes Craven movie that’s airing in the same block is The Last House on the Left (AMC) – a remake of the 1972 film of the same name – where you can see some notable TV stars like Tony Goldwyn, Monica Potter, and Garret Dillahunt.

AFTERNOON

Showtime: The Amityville Horror (2005) (12:30 PM)

Syfy: Lost Boys: The Tribe (12:30 PM)

Showtime Beyond The Facility (12:35 PM)

AMC: Halloween II (2 PM)

IFC: Army of Darkness (2 PM)

Syfy: Lost Boys: The Thirst (2:30 PM)

Chiller: Bloodwork (3 PM)

Sundance: Thinner (3:15 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Angels of Darkness (3:45 PM)

IFC: Slaughter (3:45 PM)

FXX: Evil Dead (4 PM)

AMC: Constantine (4:30 PM)

Syfy: The Cabin in the Woods (4:30 PM)

Chiller: Rites of Spring (5 PM)

Sundance: The Mist (5:15 PM)

ABC Family: Sleepy Hollow (5:30 PM)

FX: Paranormal Activity 4 (5:30 PM)

FXM: Predators (5:30 PM)

What to Watch: Catch one more early Johnny Depp/Tim Burton collaboration with Sleepy Hollow (ABC Family), and, like with every other Burton film, enjoy the visual style. For something lesser-known, try Angels of Darkness (Showtime Beyond), a Hungarian film based on the gothic novella Carmilla, about a lesbian vampire.

EVENING

FXX: The Roommate (6 PM)

AMC: Predator (7 PM)

Chiller: Deep in the Darkness (7 PM)

Showtime Beyond: The Facility (7:30 PM)

Sundance: Cujo (8 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Bloodworx (9 PM)

Syfy: I Am Legend (9 PM)

Chiller: After Dusk They Come (9 PM)

AMC: Predator 2 (9:30 PM)

ABC Family: The Nightmare Before Christmas (9:30 PM)

What to Watch: Cujo (Sundance) is another Stephen King adaptation, and while it may not be the best, it at least gives you something new. Instead of a serial killer, monster, vampire, zombie, or werewolf, you have a rabid dog. Also feel free to watch The Roommate (FXX), if only to comment on the uncanny resemblance between Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester.

LATE NIGHT

Sundance: Silver Bullet (10 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Patrick (10:40 PM)

Syfy: Apocalypse L.A. (11 PM)

IFC: My Bloody Valentine (11 PM)

Chiller: Rites of Spring (11 PM)

Sundance: Cujo (12 AM)

ABC Family: Frankenweenie (12 AM)

Showtime Next: Mimesis (12:35 AM)

Chiller: Deep in the Darkness (1 AM)

Syfy: Zombie Apocalypse (1 AM)

AMC: A Nightmare on Elm Street (1 AM)

IFC: The Hills Have Eyes (1:15 AM)

What to Watch: My Bloody Valentine on IFC should fulfill your desires to see a slasher flick full of attractive people. For even more violence, watch The Hills Have Eyes (IFC), the remake of Wes Craven’s 1977 film of the same name. On the complete opposite end of the spectrum is yet another Tim Burton stop-motion movie, Frankenweenie (ABC Family), which is quite heartwarming.

NEXT: Tuesday, October 27

[pagebreak]

Tuesday, October 27

EARLY MORNING

Showtime 2: The Devil’s Rejects (2:05 AM)

HBO Signature: The Cell 2 (3 AM)

Chiller: After Dusk They Come (3 AM)

AMC: Freddy vs. Jason (3 AM)

Showtime Beyond: Excision (3 AM)

IFC: My Bloody Valentine (3:45 AM)

Showtime Beyond: Shadow People (5 AM)

Sundance: Joshua (5:45 AM)

What to Watch: Your week has been pretty intense thus far; why not start your Tuesday off with the unintentionally comical After Dusk They Come? Kellan Lutz, who went on to star in the Twilight franchise, and a group of friends are stuck on a mysterious island after the GPS on their yacht fails them — ach, technology. If you’re looking for something a little scarier, try Excision, in which an aspiring med student (AnnaLynne McCord) goes over the top to impress her controlling mother. Later, turn your attention to Joshua. It’s almost 6 a.m.; why not watch a show about a brilliant but psychotic 9-year-old intentionally sabotaging his entire family?

MORNING

IFC: Undead (6:15 AM)

Syfy: Zombie Night (7 AM)

IFC: Mimic (8:30 AM)

HBO Zone: Gothika (8:45 AM)

Syfy: Rise of the Zombies (9 AM)

AMC: Freddy vs. Jason (9 AM)

FX: Paranormal Activity 4 (9:30 AM)

IFC: Creepshow (10:45 AM)

AMC: Resident Evil: Extinction (11 AM)

Syfy: Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever (11 AM)

Showtime Beyond: Dracula 3000 (11:30 AM)

What to Watch: Check out Mimic. If you weren’t already terrified of bugs, genetically modified insects that were created to destroy disease-ridden cockroaches turn on humans. Or if you’d like to feast your eyes on something a little more appealing than vermin, watch Halle Berry star as a psychiatrist who somehow winds up as the patient in Gothika. Other big names include Robert Downey Jr., Charles Dutton, John Carroll Lynch and Penelope Cruz. If you’re just waking up around 9:30, it’s not a particularly intimidating time slot — until you fill it with Paranormal Activity. The scariest ghosts are ones you never see.

Disney. (Jack Skellington in 'The Nightmare Before Christmas')

AFTERNOON

FXX: Evil Dead (12 PM)

AMC: Constantine (1 PM)

Syfy: The Dead 2: India (1 PM)

IFC: Undead (1:30 PM)

Showtime Next: Detention of the Dead (1:30 PM)

FXX: The Roommate (2 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Exorcismus (3 PM)

Syfy: Zombie Apocalypse (3 PM)

Chiller: Octopus (3 PM)

FXM: Predators (3 PM)

AMC: Predator (3:30 PM)

IFC: Mimic (3:45 PM)

ABC Family: Frankenweenie (4 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Smiley (4:45 PM)

Syfy: Apocalypse L.A. (5 PM)

Chiller: Octopus 2: River of Fear (5 PM)

What to Watch: In Constantine, Keanu Reeves stars as a demon hunter who has to earn his way to heaven after committing suicide. You also see a 2005 Shia LaBeouf, back when he was still relatively normal. And if you missed it earlier, and have gone through the process of choosing a random roommate, Leighton Meester is the worst-case-scenario in The Roommate. If you’re moving soon and would rather not psych yourself out prior to the housing search, watch Octopus instead. The film adds a new twist to warfare at sea when giant octopuses become the main enemy. There’s pretty much a zero percent chance this could ever happen to you.

EVENING

AMC: Friday the 13th (6 PM)

Sundance: Silver Bullet (6 PM)

ABC Family: The Nightmare Before Christmas (6 PM)

Syfy: I Am Legends (7 PM)

Chiller: The Reef (7 PM)

HBO Zone: Dawn of the Dead (7:20 PM)

AMC: Friday the 13th, Part 2 (8 PM)

HBO 2: Devil’s Due (8 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Frankenstein’s Army (8 PM)

Sundance: Firestarter (8 PM)

Chiller: Beneath (9 PM)

ABC Family: Hocus Pocus (9 PM)

Showtime Beyond: State of Emergency (9 PM)

What to Watch: Phew, your Tuesday has been pretty intense. Calm it down with a family friendly The Nightmare Before Christmas at 6 p.m. If for some reason Jack and Sally’s love story doesn’t appeal to you (which is weird, but we forgive you), feast your eyes on Stephen King’s Silver Bullet, which follows two children hunting a werewolf plaguing their town. If you’re in the mood to be truly terrified, watch Hitler’s last-ditch attempt to win World War II with the experimentation of super-soldiers in Frankenstein’s Army

LATE NIGHT

AMC: Friday the 13th, Part III (10 PM)

Sundance: Riding the Bullet (10:30 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Zombie Honeymoon (11 PM)

IFC: Jeepers Creepers (11 PM)

AMC: Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (12 AM)

Syfy: The Dead 2: India (12 AM)

ABC Family: ParaNorman (12 AM)

HBO 2: The Faculty (12:30 AM)

Showtime Beyond: Hellbenders (12:30 AM)

Sundance: Pan’s Labyrinth (12:30 AM)

IFC: Silent Hill (1 AM)

FX: Mama (1 AM)

Showtime: Scary Movie (1:30 AM)

What to Watch: What’s scarier than true love? According to Zombie Honeymoon, it’s when your true love becomes a zombie — in sickness and in health, right? If you’re craving some quality film rather than another cheesy horror thriller, watch Pan’s Labyrinth — the fantasy realm Ofelia stumbles into is haunting, yes, but it’s beautiful in its own right. If you’re in the mood to be truly terrified (and 1 a.m. is certainly a good time to achieve this) check out Mama on FX, which proves, yet again, that children make the most terrifying characters of all.

NEXT: Wednesday, October 28

[pagebreak]

Wednesday, October 28

EARLY MORNING

Syfy: Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies (2 AM)

AMC: Friday the 13th – A New Beginning (2 AM)

Showtime Showcase: Mine Games (2:40 AM)

IFC: Jeepers Creepers (3:45 AM)

Showtime Beyond: The Depraved (3:45 AM)

AMC: Friday the 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives (4 AM)

What to Watch: If you’re in the mood for something a little lighter, try Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies — as if he didn’t have enough to occupy himself with the Civil War and all. Jeepers Creepers is always a classic option — and you’ve got a while before the 23rd spring rolls around to prepare yourself for the creature’s next flesh-eating spree.

MORNING

Sundance: Riding the Bullet (6 AM)

Showtime Next: The Roost (6:15 AM)

IFC: The Funhouse (6:30 AM)

Showtime Beyond: Deep Rising (7 AM)

FX: Mama (7 AM)

Sundance: Pan’s Labyrinth (8 AM)

IFC: Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (8:45 AM)

AMC: Friday the 13th Part VII – The New Blood (9 AM)

FX: Cold Creek Manor (9 AM)

IFC: The Funhouse (10:30 AM)

Sundance: Ghostbusters (10:30 AM)

AMC: Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan (11 AM)

What to Watch: In the 1981 slasher cult film The Funhouse, pot-smoking teens agree to spend the night in a carnival despite the warnings of their parents — naturally, this leads to a man in a mask murdering people. In keeping with predictable plotlines, watch Cold Creek Manor, in which ultimate movie star dad Dennis Quaid moves his family from the city to renovate an old house in the country. As you might imagine, the house turns out to be haunted. And don’t miss Ghostbusters, of course. It’s not particularly scary, no, but who can resist watching something with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, and a catchy theme song?

Gene Page. (Justin Long as Darry in 'Jeepers Creepers')

AFTERNOON

IFC: Creepshow (12:45 PM ET)

Sundance: Ghostbusters II (1 PM ET)

AMC: Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1 PM ET)

Showtime Beyond: eXistenZ (2:45 PM ET)

Sundance: Riding the Bullet (3:30 PM ET)

ABC Family: ParaNorman (4 PM ET)

Showtime Beyond: The Brood (4:30 PM ET)

AMC: Friday the 13th (5 PM ET)

Chiller: The Hitcher (5 PM ET)

IFC: The Mist (5:15 PM ET)

Sundance: Firestarter (5:30 PM ET)

What to Watch: If you chose to spend your morning watching Ghostbusters, why not make a day of it? Catch that same acting triple threat in Ghostbusters II at 1 p.m. If you’d rather spice up the day with some real horror (and if you missed its airing the other day), watch Jude Law and Jennifer Jason Leigh in eXistenZ as they get a little too caught up in a virtual reality game. Assassins are involved. At 4 p.m., when the kids are coming home from school, head over to ABC Family for ParaNorman, an adorable animated movie about a boy who can speak to dead people.

EVENING

ABC Family: Hocus Pocus (6 PM)

FX: Paranormal Activity (6 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Deep Rising (6:05 PM)

AMC: Halloween (7 PM)

Chiller: Unidentified (7 PM)

Sundance: Pet Sematary (8 PM)

FX: The Purge (8 PM)

ABC Family: Dark Shadows (8:15 PM)

AMC: Halloween II (9 PM)

Chiller: Animal (9 PM)

What to Watch: At 8 p.m., switch over to Sundance for the classic Pet Sematary, which features a family named the Creeds and the mysterious cemetery behind their new house — which, you guessed it, is in the countryside. If you want something with an undertone of social commentary, see what happens when an America with overcrowding prisons makes all crime legal for 12 hours in The Purge. If you’re feeling like you might want a weekend vacation sometime in the near future, maybe Animal will talk you out of it. Nothing like a ravenous killer to make those Instagram-worthy wooded cabins seem a little less desirable.

LATE NIGHT

Showtime 2: The Devil’s Rejects (10 PM)

Sundance: Pet Sematary (10 PM)

AMC: Halloween III: Season of the Witch (11 PM)

Chiller: The Hitcher (11 PM)

Sundance: Ghostbusters (12 AM)

ABC Family: Casper (12 AM)

AMC: Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1 AM)

TCM: Frankenweenie (1:15 AM)

What to Watch: Why can cops in horror films never do their jobs right? In The Devil’s Rejects, when a Texan sheriff vows revenge on a family of serial killers, the family escapes and continues their reign of terror beyond the grasp of law enforcement. If you need a break from all the terror, the entertainment industry’s cutest ghost, Casper, is playing at midnight. And if you haven’t already taken the required Halloween dosage of Michael Myers films, AMC’s got you covered at 1 a.m. with Halloween 4.

NEXT: Thursday, October 29

Thursday, October 29

Showtime 2: Afflicted (3:40 AM)

TCM: Return From Witch Mountain (5 AM)

Showtime Beyond: eXistenZ (5:55 AM)

What to Watch: Halloween is in two days, and there’s still so much TV to watch! Start out your Thursday with Disney’s Mr. Boogedy, an animated flick telling the tale of a family who moves into a house haunted by a boogeyman that, quite frankly, looks like a rotting potato. If you don’t find potatoes all that frightening, murdering cannibals will probably do the trick. Hannibal plays at 2:15 a.m.

AMC: Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (10 AM)

Syfy: Se7en (10 AM)

TCM: House on Haunted Hill (10:45)

What to Watch: At 6 a.m., ensure your terror the next time you see lightening by watching The Mist. A storm brings with it a strange mist on a lake that conceals tentacled-creatures who are out for blood. If you’re in the mood for a throwback, check out An American Werewolf in Paris, a 1997 film featuring Tom Everett Scott and Julie Delpy and some werewolves with above average intelligence. For an even bigger throwback, check out The Devil-Doll to see how 1936’s horrific movie effects match up to today’s standards.

Chiller: Spiders II: Breeding Ground (5 PM)

ABC Family: Casper (5 PM)

Showtime Beyond: Don’t Blink (5:10 PM)

TCM: A Bucket of Blood (5:30 PM)

What to Watch: If you take away nothing else from your week reveling in horror films, remember this: moving or traveling is never a good plan. In Reeker, strangers stuck at the Halfway Motel begin to see dead people as members of the group are picked off. If you’d like to indulge your arachnophobia instead, try Spiders. Just make sure not to miss The Amityville Horror, if for no other reason than the fact that Ryan Reynolds stars in it.

FX: Zombieland (6 PM)

FXX: Hotel Transylvania (6 PM)

Showtime Next: John Dies at the End (6:15 PM)

Explore Dracula’s high-end resort in Hotel Transylvania at 6 p.m., or school your offspring in the classics with The Addams Family at 7 p.m. If you’re sans kids, check out Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings. A demon resurrected by pesky teens isn’t child-friendly, but it’s sure to be bloody.

LATE NIGHT

Chiller: Spiders (11 PM)

AMC: Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (12 AM)

What to Watch: This lineup ensures that you’ve got some variety to end your Thursday with. Try Zombieland if you’re looking to put the finishing touches on your own zombie apocalypse survival plan. Jesse Eisenberg’s character has 30 rules for you on that front, and a Twinkie-loving Woody Harrelson will end your night on a good note. If you’re more in the mood to do some crime sleuthing, head to Syfy to watch Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt hunt a serial killer using the seven deadly sins as inspiration in Se7en

Meanwhile, the always enjoyable Beetlejuice is again airing, while the Ethan Hawke-starring Sinister will satisfy horror fans who enjoyed Paranormal Activity and Insidious (the three films share a producer).

Flix: Silent Night, Deadly Night (9:40 PM)

What to Watch: Chiller airs Black Water, an indie, low-budget film with impressive practical effects to create the man-eating crocodile that serves up the terror at the center of the film. Also on: Poltergeist, a can’t-miss classic about a more-than-just-haunted house. If none of the other options work for you, there’s always Ghostbusters, airing on IFC.

Showtime Beyond: Detention of the Dead (1:45 AM)

IFC: Ghostbusters (1:45 AM)

What to Watch: It’s nearly Halloween, which means it’s time to turn up the dial on the truly frightening fare. Try The Atticus Institute for a demonic tale that stars William Mapother (Ethan to Lost fans). Meanwhile on HBO Comedy, Anna Paquin, Leslie Bibb, and more stars populate Trick ‘r Treat, a film told in scary vignettes. Or, you can try the slightly silly: Flix airs Ticks, about murderous, mutated bugs most certainly carrying something way worse than Lyme disease.

NEXT: Halloween

What to Watch: Didn’t watch The Faculty earlier? Now’s your chance to see a young Josh Hartnett, Jon Stewart, and a dozen other stars avoid an alien menace. But for an even throwback-ier throwback, there’s Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi in the classic The Body Snatcher, airing on TCM at 2:45 a.m.

HBO Family: Beetlejuice (11 AM)

TCM: The Fearless Vampire Killers (11:15 AM)

IFC: A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (11:15 AM)

What to Watch: Because it’s Halloween, the list of films you can watch is absurdly long, even for the morning block. If you’re up, you’ve got a nastily packed field of options: Should you go for Maniac CopThe Fearless Vampire Killers, or White Zombie? All have crazy titles and involve equally crazy plots. But head over to HBO, which will be airing Hollow Man, a Kevin Bacon-headlining film in which he gives one of his best horror movie performances (sorry, Tremors). Then again, you could reacquaint yourself with the Evil Dead franchise if you haven’t already by watching the second installment on Chiller at 10 a.m., hours before Ash vs. Evil Dead, the series, hits Starz.

Showtime Beyond: The Facility (5:30 PM)

IFC: A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (5:30 PM)

ABC Family: The Nightmare Before Christmas (5:30 PM)

What to Watch: This lineup is almost as hard to choose from as the Halloween candy you (or a child in your vicinity) is bound to pick up: a young Drew Barrymore in Firestarter or Johnny Depp in Sleepy Hollow? Go for the flawless The Silence of the Lambs or the bound-to-give-you-nightmares Poltergeist? It’s up to you, but for us, we’d pick Insidious on Syfy, Dawn of the Dead on HBO Signature, and just because, The Nightmare Before Christmas — even if you’ve already seen it a dozen times this week. And 1999’s House on Haunted Hill is a fascinating choice: In the film, a group of people must survive the night at a haunted house to each receive a million dollars.

Showtime 2: Scary Movie (9:30 PM)

IFC: Halloween (9:30 PM)

HBO: The Pyramid (9:45 PM)

What to Watch: During this block, go for the Curtis Hansen-directed The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, a film he helmed before tackling the seminal L.A. Confidential. It’s manipulative and eerily suspenseful. There’s also The Purge: Anarchy, the follow-up to the breakout horror hit of 2013, and The Conjuring. Oh, and then there’s The Shining on Sundance, which should be viewed at least once during Halloween week.

AMC: Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (10:30 PM)

Chiller: Maniac Cop (1 AM)

AMC: Halloween (1:30 AM)

Syfy: Lost Boys: The Tribe (1:30 AM)

Sundance: Firestarter (1:39 AM)

What to Watch: If you somehow find yourself in front of a couch around this time Halloween night, turn on The Shining for pure scares if you missed it earlier. But if you’d rather catch something with a, well, lighter tone, The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be airing at midnight on HBO Zone. Or go for an even curvier curveball with Lost Boys: The Tribe, a gem with enough vampire violence to keep you up all night.

Syfy: The Conjuring (5:30 PM)

Sundance: Halloween II (6 PM)

Sundance: Halloween III: Season of the Witch (8 PM)

Sundance: Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (10 PM)

What to Watch: Now that the week of watching is over, take some time off — or not. You can catch all the Halloween films on Sundance’s “Halloween Hangover Marathon” or find a young Aaron Paul and Tony Goldwyn in The Last House on the Left. For the freakiest visuals, though, try The Haunting in Connecticut 2; sure, it’s the sequel to its superior original, but it’ll keep you scared way after Halloween.

…And with all that, you’re done! Now, peel yourself off the couch and celebrate your week of (fictional) horror by diving into the massive amount of Halloween candy and, we hope, plenty of nightmare-free sleep.
