Soviet statue of Lenin transformed into Darth Vader

An ongoing decommunization process in Ukraine, in which all Communist and Soviet symbols are being renamed and removed, had set a statue of Vladimir Lenin as its next target. This particular Lenin statue was near a factory in Odessa, however, and workers at the factory requested that the statue be redesigned rather than demolished. Local artist Alexander Milov obliged, transforming Lenin’s visage into the iconic armor of Darth Vader.

This Vader is a little more friendly than his film counterpart; there’s a router in its helmet supplying Wi-Fi to the surrounding area, according to Russian news site Meduza. Check out these shots of the statue, before and after it was reborn as a Sith.

Strangely, this is not the first time Ukrainians have expressed fascination with the Dark Lord of the Sith. Back in 2014, politician Victor Shevchenko changed his name to Darth Vader and campaigned to be prime minister of Ukraine. Unfortunately, he failed.
