We gave it a B+

The bloodiest book yet in J.K. Rowling’s pseudonymous new series finds private detective Cormoran Strike and his secretary-turned-partner, Robin Ellacott, investigating an enigmatic package sent to their office: a woman’s severed leg. Strike and Robin are at their witty, diffident best as they try to track down the person capable of such brutality while simultaneously grappling with their messy lives and increasingly complicated relationship. There are chapters told from the killer’s point of view, too, which are particularly nasty. The result is a fiendishly plotted, gruesomely entertaining tale. B+
