One day after One Direction was forced to cancel a concert because member Liam Payne grew “suddenly ill,” Payne has apologized to disappointed fans on Twitter.
“I’m so sorry to everybody I disappointed last night,” he wrote, before sharing some good news. “I’m feeling better now. I really hope everyone can make the rescheduled date on Friday.”
The group’s concert was set to happen in Belfast. “Liam has been taken suddenly ill, and the concert will sadly not be taking place,” the band’s representatives said in a statement. “Fans have been asked to hold on to their tickets and there will be a further statement tomorrow. The band [apologizes] to their fans and wish Liam well as soon as possible.”
On Twitter, the hashtag #GetWellSoonLiam exploded following the news of Payne’s illness. “Thank you so much for all the trends and lovely messages you guys did for me,” Payne wrote on Wednesday. “It really shows how amazing u guys actually are.” He added, “As I said I’m feeling much better now and I really can’t wait to perform and make it up to everyone later.”
Tuesday’s cancellation was the first time One Direction had ever scrapped a concert because of illness. The group had powered through when, as a quintet, members such as Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik had fallen ill at other shows.
Malik left the group in March, leaving One Direction with four total members. Read Payne’s tweets below.
