James McAvoy joins Charlize Theron in The Coldest City

  • James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class, Victor Frankenstein) is taking up residence in The Coldest City with Charlize Theron. Stunt-choreographer-turned-director David Leitch (John Wick) is helming the spy thriller, working from a script by Kurt Johnstad. The story is based on Antony Johnston’s graphic novel about a spy (Theron) investigating the death of an undercover MI6 officer in Germany just before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Cameras roll in Budapest next month.
  • The Iraq war drama Megan Leavey has found its male lead in Ramon Rodriguez (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Need for Speed). He’ll appear opposite Kate Mara in Blackfish director Gabriela Cowperthwaite‘s film about a female marine who turns her life around by joining a K9 unit. Pamela Gray wrote the script; producers are Mickey Liddell, Jennifer Monroe, and Pete Shilaimon. [Deadline]
  • Irish actress Eve Hewson, currently on screen in Bridge of Spies, has scored the role of Maid Marian in Robin Hood: Origins. She joins Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) in the Lionsgate film being directed by Otto Bathurst. Shooting is scheduled for next summer. Hewson has also starred in Cinemax’s The Knick and is the daughter of U2 frontman Bono. [Deadline]
