H.R. Pufnstuf is coming back into your life in a new way. Nickelodeon announced Tuesday that characters from Sid and Marty Krofft’s cult ’60s series would appear in their newest live-action preschool show, Mutt & Stuff. And the creators are thrilled.
“H.R. Pufnstuf was the first TV show my brother and I created, so it has always held a special place in our hearts,” Marty Krofft said in a statement. “Our fans constantly ask us to bring back Pufnstuf, and we feel the vibrant world of Mutt & Stuff is the perfect setting to revitalize these colorful characters and build excitement for new fans.”
H.R. Pufnstuf, Cling and Clang, and Freddy the Flute will appear in a special titled H.R. Pufnstuf Comes to Mutt & Stuff!, which will begin production this fall and air in early 2016. The titular lead of the original series will visit his nephew, Stuff, at canine school. The youngster tries his hardest to impress his uncle and his friends.
