Zachary Quinto is heading back to the New York stage in the MCC Theater’s premiere of Noah Haidle’s Smokefall, opening in February at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
Following a smash world premiere run at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre, Smokefall is a family drama across four generations, described in press notes as a hybrid of “magical realism” and “manic vaudeville.” Two unborn twins contemplate philosophy while awaiting their birth in the womb, a husband plots to leave his wife, a daughter eats dirt and takes a vow of silence, and the entire thing is guided by a man named Footnote.
Emmy nominee Quinto, who most recently appeared on Broadway in the critically acclaimed revival of The Glass Menagerie and is currently at work on the third film in the Star Trek franchise, plays Footnote. Additional casting will be announced in the coming months.
Directed by Anne Kauffman, Smokefall begins previews on Feb. 4, 2016, in anticipation of an opening night on Feb. 22; the limited engagement is scheduled to end March 13. MCC Theater’s 2015-16 season includes John Pollono’s Lost Girls (starring Piper Perabo) and Halley Feiffer’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City.
