While Melissa Benoist’s Kara Zor-El takes flight to protect the citizens of National City, James Olsen, played by Mehcad Brooks, is a hero in his own right on CBS’ Supergirl.
During New York Comic Con, EW caught up with Brooks – possibly the most jacked Jimmy Olsen ever – at the EW and Sirius XM suite to chat about the upcoming action-packed series ahead of its debut later this month.
Brooks’ Olsen moves to National City after taking up the position of Art Director at CatCo – of course, this means he’ll have the opportunity to get close to our heroine, Kara. But the actor revealed his character and Kara’s cousin – the one and only Superman – have established a “bro code,” and he can’t pursue something romantic with Kara without some level of hesitation.
“You can’t just move to National City and hit on his cousin,” Brooks said. “That would be grounds for heat vision.”
But hanging around Superman for so long definitely had an effect on him, as Brooks described how his character matured (and hit the gym) before taking up his new post in order to look after Kara. Check out the video above for the full interview.
Supergirl premieres Monday, Oct. 26 at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
