To say Amy Schumer has had a busy year would be an understatement.
Not only did she make her feature film debut in Trainwreck, but she also befriended Jennifer Lawrence (and started working on a screenplay with her), appeared on The Bachelorette, and opened at Madison Square Garden for Madonna. And she just sold a book proposal for $8 to $10 million. And she’s got an HBO stand-up special coming up later this month. Oh, and she also won an Emmy for her Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer. Pretty much the only thing she hasn’t done at this point is host Saturday Night Live, a fact which will be remedied in just a few hours.
Schumer is set to make her first SNL appearance, and although she may not have any Studio 8H experience, she’s certainly qualified in both stand-up and sketch comedy. Inside Amy Schumer, which beat out SNL at the Emmys for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series, is filled with the kinds of commercial parodies and satirical music videos that would fit right in on NBC at 11:30.
Plus, Trainwreck was populated with SNL cast members past (Bill Hader, Colin Quinn), present (Vanessa Bayer), and even future (Hader recommended Pete Davidson to Lorne Michaels after working with him on Trainwreck). While a Hader cameo seems unlikely — although we’re still crossing our fingers — there’s a chance that Schumer’s new BFF could make an appearance: Last year, Lawrence showed up with Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth when their Hunger Games costar Woody Harrelson hosted.
The Weeknd will also make his official SNL musical guest debut tonight, although he did appear on last year’s Chris Pratt-hosted season premiere, singing “Love Me Harder” with Ariana Grande. The singer released his album Beauty Behind the Madness on Aug. 28, and his latest single, “The Hills,” is currently No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, with his other hit, “Can’t Feel My Face,” close behind.
