The king of Queens is eyeing a comeback to CBS.

CBS has given a series commitment to an untitled project that would star Kevin James. The former star of The King of Queens will headline a multi-camera comedy from Bruce Helford and Rock Reuben about a newly-retired police officer looking to spend “more quality time with his wife and three kids… only to discover he faces much tougher challenges at home than he ever did on the streets.”

“We’re beyond thrilled to be back in business with Kevin James!” said Glenn Geller, CBS Entertainment President, in a statement.  “He’s an incredibly talented star on every screen and every stage, who appeals to a broad audience. We can’t wait to start working with Kevin and the amazing comedy talents of Bruce Helford and Rock Reuben on this exciting new project.”

James starred as Doug Heffernen in The King of Queens from 1998 to 2007 for CBS.
