Luke Evans and Henry Cavill join Nicholas Hoult in war drama Sand Castle

And McG’s ‘The Babysitter’ finds its leads

  • Luke Evans (Dracula Untold) and Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) have joined Nicholas Hoult in the Iraq war drama Sand Castle, based on screenwriter Chris Roessner‘s experience as a machine gunner in the Sunni Triangle. Fernando Coimbra (A Wolf at the Door, Netflix’s Narcos) is directing the film, which follows a soldier (Hoult) on a mission to repair a broken water system in the unstable Iraqi village of Baqubah. Principal photography begins in November.

  • New Line’s coming-of-age horror movie The Babysitter has found its leads in Australian actress Samara Weaving (niece of The Matrix baddie Hugo Weaving) and Demolition co-star Judah Lewis. McG (Charlie’s Angels, Terminator Salvation) is directing from Brian Duffield‘s script about a lonely 12-year-old kid who’s infatuated with his sitter and learns a few things about life, love, and murder.   • Fast & Furious franchise veteran Michelle Rodriguez has joined Donald Sutherland and William Ainscough in the big-screen adaptation of Milton’s Secret, the children’s novel by Eckhart Tolle and Robert Friedman. Rodriguez will play a schoolteacher in the story of a young boy (Ainscough) who’s bullied by his classmates. Barnet Bain is directing the movie, which is currently shooting in Ontario.   • Kevin Sorbo, star of the ’90s TV show Hercules and the 2014 faith-based drama God’s Not Dead, is on board to play the lead in The Christmas Gift, an independent production looking to raise $2.5 million in crowdfunding. Isaac Florentine, a veteran of TV’s Power Rangers franchise, is to direct the movie about an ex-hockey player who dedicates his life to helping the homeless in New York. [The Hollywood Reporter]
