Bruno Mars got a nice present on his 30th birthday: NBC inked a deal with the Grammy-winning singer to produce a family comedy pilot.

The proposed series, whose pilot is being written by Prentice Penny (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Happy Endings), centers on a boisterous musical family in the Bronx that takes in their wide-eyed 10-year-old relative. Empire executive producer/Imagine co-founder Brian Grazer is among the EPs on the single-camera project, as is Mars, whose music likely will be used in some capacity.

Mars isn’t the only music star to score a TV production deal in recent weeks. In late September, ABC Family announced that Nicki Minaj will executive produce and appear in a family comedy based on her life. Meanwhile, Fox is developing 305a one-hour Miami drama executive produced by Pitbull.
