YouTube star Toby Turner will host Legends of Gaming, a new digital series that focuses on the fierce world of YouTube gamers and professional eSports players. If EW’s exclusive extended trailer of the series is any indication, Turner is going all in to pump even more life into the cutthroat gaming community.
Based on a popular format in the U.K. currently in its second season, the U.S. version will veer from its predecessor (which focused on solo and 1:1 gameplay) and follow competitive gaming teams working together with pro coaches leading the way.
Four teams of two gamers will be coached by industry names: Fatal1ty (widely considered to be the world’s first professional gamer), Perfect Legend, HotShottGG, and Hafu may sound foreign now, but they collectively represent 43 million supporters and 6.5 billion views across social media platforms. The first season’s contestants include The Jovenshire, Syndicate Project, Terroriser, TmarTn, OMGitsfirefoxx, iiJERiiCHOii, Lui Calibre, and JD Witherspoon a.k.a. runJDrun.
Endemol Beyond USA will produce over 100 episodes of the series, with nearly 40 regular episodes hosted by Turner and the rest devoted to an assortment of game play, bloopers, cast profiles, and recaps. The series is striving to be a major launching pad for the company’s new gaming/eSports network Smasher, which is where Legends episodes will be dropping across five months from Oct. 7 through February 2016.
(Pizza Hut is also involved as a brand partner, because of course.)
