In what’s either a promotional stunt for his new CNBC series Jay Leno’s Garage or something that many thought was inevitable, Jay Leno filled in for Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.
Well, kind of. Leno made a surprise, “sub in” appearance during the monologue on Tuesday night’s installment of the late-night talk show.
Leno, of course, hosted NBC’s flagship late-night talk show from 1992 to 2009 and dominated in the ratings before Conan O’Brien briefly assumed the reins; he then maneuvered back into the job in 2010 and held court once again until 2014, when Fallon succeeded him. Leno returned to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as a guest last fall.
Jay Leno’s Garage, an adaptation of his web series that explores anything and everything automotive, debuts Wednesday at 10 p.m. on CNBC, a cable sister channel of NBC.
