The scorching-hot chemistry between Dr. Beaumont Rosewood Jr. (Morris Chestnut) and detective Villa (Jaina Lee Ortiz) in the Miami-set show’s premiere may have left viewers craving more from this telegenic twosome, but it looks like any possibility of a romance is about to come to an abrupt halt with an appearance by Rosewood’s girlfriend in episode 2.
That’s right: though Rosewood didn’t exactly give off “I’m taken” vibes during the first episode of the dramedy series, it seems that he’s in a relationship with girlfriend Kat (played by guest star Nicole Ari Parker).
In an exclusive sneak peek at Wednesday’s episode, Rosewood — whom Kat affectionately calls “Rosie” — proves himself the perfect BF as he prepares a meal and even croons some R&B for his ladylove of a few weeks. And it seems like Kat is really into him — enough, anyway, to question the arsenal of prescription meds that Rosewood has littered on his kitchen counter.
“I know we’re only a few weeks into this thing, but how bad is it?” asks Kat, hinting that Rosewood’s health-related secret might be somewhat serious.
Check out the clip above to see Rosewood’s response (and to see him put the moves on Kat).
In the role of Rosewood — a brainy private pathologist who helps the Miami police department crack their toughest cases — Chestnut displays equal parts exuberance and a tongue-in-cheek comedic sensibility, a combination the 46-year-old says he’s thrilled to showcase in his first lead part on the small screen.

“I think what it allows me to do is show an aspect of my personality people haven’t seen in a couple of decades,” Chestnut told EW earlier this fall. “With Rosewood, I’m having fun, telling jokes and being witty in a way people haven’t seen [from me] in a long time.”
Rosewood airs Wednesdays on Fox at 8 p.m. ET.
