Celebrated author Daniel Handler — better known by his alias, Lemony Snicket — and his wife, illustrator Lisa Brown, are donating $1 million to Planned Parenthood, according to Handler’s tweet Monday morning.

“We’ve been very fortunate, and good fortune should be shared with noble causes,” Handler wrote.

Planned Parenthood tweeted its thanks shortly after:

Planned Parenthood has been in the news lately because of a government schism over federal funding. House Republicans voted last week to stop federal funding to the organization, while Senate Democrats and President Obama have voted against the Planned Parenthood bill and another anti-abortion measure, The New York Times reports.

Handler joins other celebrated artists who have openly supported Planned Parenthood in recent weeks. Lena Dunham, Kerry Washington, and Elizabeth Banks are just a few of the stars who have spoken in favor of the organization.
