The world will have to wait until next year’s Batman v Superman for Jason Momoa’s Aquaman to make his official debut (and then even longer for a standalone film for the character), but thanks to director Zack Snyder, fans already received a glimpse of what we might expect. And while Momoa’s king of Atlantis is a very different look than the traditional DC Comics superhero, don’t count out seeing those familiar Aquaman colors.

“There might be some bit of orange and green — a bit of respect to prior work,” Momoa told the website, The Robot’s Voice, in a recent interview. Momoa also noted that the costume change reflected the character’s menacing look. “But I think he is meaner now and upset — look at what has been done to our oceans. That’s his world that has been polluted.”

Aquaman is expected to arrive in theaters July 27, 2018.
