When The Flash kicks off its second season, the scarlet speedster will be bringing some new friends (and foes!) with him when he returns from gallantly running into the singularity in the season 1 finale. Here’s everything you need to know before watching season 2: (Spoilers ahead!)
How did last season end?
After Barry (Grant Gustin) decided against saving his mother in the past, the scarlet speedster raced back to the present to prevent the Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh) from returning to his own time. Devastated at the destruction of the time machine, Eobard was determined to not only kill Barry, but everyone he cares about. Seeing that the man in yellow was getting the upper hand, Eddie (Rick Cosnett) decided to shoot himself, knowing it would effectively erase his descendant from the timeline. Despite returning to the present in time, a singularity opened up above Central City, forcing Barry to run into it to save everyone’s lives. Read more about that here.
What happened to Barry?
It appears that Barry will end up on Earth-Two, essentially opening up a wormhole that allows new and maybe familiar metahumans to cross over and wreck havoc in Central City — in particular, Zoom, who will be voiced by Tony Todd, though the identity of who’s really portraying the character is being kept under wraps. Zoom’s arrival facilitates the introduction of original Flash Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears), who comes with a warning for Barry, whom he’ll be mentoring this season. On the plus side, Barry will be sporting a whole new suit.
Who else is coming to Central City?
Besides Jay Garrick, Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale), Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten) and Jesse Quick (Violett Beane) are among their new allies. Malese Jow will also reprise her role as Linda Park. Michael Ironside will play Leonard Snart’s abusive father, while Adam Copeland has been tapped to portray villain Atom Smasher.
Plus: During The Flash and Arrow‘s annual crossover episode, the characters from Legends of Tomorrow will appear, setting up the new midseason spin-off. Get your first look at Hawkgirl (Ciara Renée) and Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) here.
What can fans expect for everyone else?
Here’s a teaser for every single character. Also, Tom Cavanagh is still a series regular in season 2, though how he returns is a mystery. In the wake of Wells’… hmm, let’s call it absence, Iris (Candice Patton) will step up as team leader at S.T.A.R. Labs.
The Flash returns Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
