American Gods adds Hannibal director David Slade

David Slade has joined the pantheon of American Gods.

The Hannibal veteran will direct the pilot and more episodes of Starz’s adaptation of the Neil Gaiman fantasy novel, which centers on a battle between the old biblical and mythological gods and a new generation of deities representing modern America’s obsession with technology, media, and wealth.

Slade will also serve as an executive producer on the series, which features fellow Hannibal veteran Bryan Fuller and Michael Green (Heroes, Everwood) as showrunners.

Fuller confirmed Slade’s involvement on Twitter, calling it “exciting news” for Hannibal fans, and Gaiman also welcomed the “genius director” to the family.

Starz is eyeing a January 2017 premiere for American Gods.
