As Australia celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday, Bindi Irwin took to Instagram to pay an tribute to her late father, Steve.

“Thinking about home today,” she captioned a photo of her father with — what else? — a crocodile. “Father’s Day is today in Australia and everyone is celebrating at Australia Zoo. It’s such a special time of year, I hope everyone who comes to the zoo today is able to enjoy it with our gorgeous animals. No matter where I am in the world, this day means such a lot to me. My heart forever lives @AustraliaZoo – just like Dad’s always did.”

Bindi was just 8 years old on Sept. 4, 2006 — days before Father’s Day — when Irwin was attacked by a stingray while filming the documentary Ocean’s Deadliest at Batt Reef. Though he was quickly rushed to shore, Irwin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Currently in L.A. rehearsing for Dancing With the Stars, Bindi is a “breath of fresh air,” according to her dancing partner, Derek Hough. “We all need a little Bindi in our life.”
