Public Morals: Ed Burns on working with Tom Hanks on Saving Private Ryan

Posted on

Ed Burns’ latest project, Public Morals, finds the actor once again collaborating with Oscar winner Steven Spielberg for the 1960s-set drama. Back in 1998, Burns starred in Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan, and his first day on set with the famed director may not have gone as smoothly as he would’ve hoped.

For EW’s Greatest Story Ever Told video series, Burns opens up about his first day working on Saving Private Ryan and sharing the screen with Tom Hanks. But nerves quickly caught up with him (understandable, really) and — despite a pep talk from Hanks himself — the scene didn’t quite make the final cut. See the full narrative above.

Public Morals airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on TNT.
