Pop star Pink posted a comment on Instagram from her private account criticizing the MTV Video Music Awards for a lack of substance. “This trash won’t save any kid’s life,” she wrote on the now-deleted comment. She added that while the show left her feeling “embarrassed and sad,” a few performances stood out as good, including Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, The Weeknd, Tori Kelly and Justin Bieber.
After her words were picked up by various media outlets, the pop star responded to a growing uproar over the fact that she didn’t include Demi Lovato on her rundown of the positive aspects from the ceremony.
“Please look for a feud elsewhere. I have no issue with Demi Lovato or anyone else. I actually forgot she performed. I have opinions. MANY,” Pink, whose real name is Alecia Moore, wrote on Twitter. “I stand by what I said. However, I didn’t intend for the angry people of the world to latch on and make it into something it isn’t. Peace.”
In follow-up tweets, Pink reiterated that she didn’t have an issue with Lovato, and criticized how the public was quick to jump on a possible feud between the two singers.
“You know, this is part of why I’m sad about the VMAs and the world in general,” Pink wrote. “Everyone is so nasty and waiting for a fight. I never said anything about Demi Lovato or called out anyone. I was talking to a friend in response to his disappointment about the show. I agree with him. You can make this into whatever you like, cause that’s who we are now, I guess. I’m out. In other news, it’s gonna be a beautiful day, I hope you look up from your keyboards and enjoy it.”
While Lovato didn’t address Pink by name, she quoted the singer in a tweet about the VMAs and her performance of “Cool for the Summer.”
