Saoirse Ronan struggles with homesickness in the first clip from 'Brooklyn'

Posted on

In Brooklyn, Saoirse Ronan stars as a young Irish woman named Eilis Lacey adapting to her new life at a New York City boarding house and her new job at a department store. In this first clip, she realizes just how much she misses home when a letter arrives from her family in Ireland.

Directed by John Crowley and written by Nick Hornby, Brooklyn adapts the novel by Colm Tóibín, which follows Eilis as she navigates New York and falls in love with an Italian man before tragedy forces her to choose between her old life in Ireland and her new life in America.

Brooklyn debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and will hit theaters on Nov. 6.
