Kanye West mesmerized audiences at the MTV VMAs with his acceptance speech after receiving the Video Vanguard Award on Sunday night, and no one felt West’s message more than Jaden Smith.

As the rapper opined on life as a celebrity, feeling guilty over interrupting Taylor Swift in 2009, and what awards shows are even for, the camera repeatedly cut back to Smith as he saluted West, keeping his arm raised in the air throughout the speech (while standing behind an otherwise apathetic-looking Macklemore).

Sure, the actor (and notorious tweeter) may not have said a word in his reaction, but his stance made waves online. As West put it in his speech, “Listen to the kids!”

Later, Smith took to Twitter to cement his support for West, who ended his speech by jokingly announcing he would run for president in 2020:
